Thomas William McBride, 64, of Sunrise, FL, died with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 9th 2014 at Broward General Medical Center. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne, his two daughters, Heather and Kelli, his granddaughter Ava, and his four legged buddy Sadie McBride.
From 1969-1971, Thomas served two years in the United States Army, stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany during the Vietnam War. Thomas moved from New York to Florida where he began his life after the service. Thomas married his wife, Joanne, of 37 years, April 24th, 1977 in Sunrise, FL at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. In 1983, Thomas was the first Florida International University student to graduate with his Bachelors degree in Fire Science. He then bravely served as a firefighter/EMT with the rank of Lieutenant for over 23 years for the City of Sunrise.After retirement,Thomas began his work at the Broward Fire Academy.There, he was an instructor and became the head coordinator for the Academy for over 18 years. Thomas helped countless students and professionals pursue their careers as firefighters. Thomas enjoyed life to the fullest and took pleasure in many different hobbies. He loved to attend baseball, hockey, and football games. Most of all, Thomas especially loved anything University of Miami. He had a lot of fun spending his leisure time testing his luck at the casinos. He loved good food, good friends, but most of all his family. Thomas was an incredibly giving and generous man who will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him.
A funeral service will be held Monday,April 21st at the Broward Fire Academy. The family will begin to receive friends and loved ones beginning at 3:00. The service will begin promptly at 4:00 at the Broward Fire Academy. 2600 SW 71st Terrace Davie, FL. There will be a reception to follow open to all friends and family, 6:00 pm at the Ft. Lauderdale Fireman’s Benevolent Hall 309 SW 26th Street Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33315 for food and drinks courtesy of Tom.
