Joan Templeton Griffis

Joan Templeton Griffis, 81, of Sunrise, Florida, passed away, Wednesday December 24, 2014 after a brief illness. Joan was born February 10, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mary and Stanley Templeton; she married H. George Griffis in New York City in 1951 on the CBS TV show Bride and Groom. Joan studied Fashion Design in school and was a talented artist and drew several family portraits, was a house wife and Mother. As a child she adored Shirley Temple and sometimes was mistaken as her. Her favorite movie was “Gone with the Wind” and she had a collection of books and collectibles she was very proud of and even named a pet dog “Tara” in honor of her love for the movie. Mom was an avid interior Designer and loved to make her home a showplace and was a seamstress and made a lot of clothes she wore. Joan spent most of her retirement years enjoying life with her husband George, with visits from their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan is survived by son, Stephen and his wife Sarita of Orlando, FL, daughter, Joanne Griffis Chism and her husband Lloyd of Miami, FL, and daughter, Lisa Griffis Tasse and her husband John of Cooper City, FL, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Sister, Holly T McOwen, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be begin at 12:00 pm, Friday, January 2, 2015 at TM Ralph Funeral Homes Sawgrass / Weston 371 NW 136th Avenue Sunrise, FL 33325. Family and Friends may visit with the Family from 11:00 am until 12:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Reverend Ray Wharenberg will be officiating memorial service.
