Diana Rabar Bark
(January 13, 1923 – February 10, 2015)
Diana Rabar Bark was born January 13, 1923 and left this earthly plane on February 10, 2015. She was born in Gologorica, Croatia under the name of Danica Rabar. When her mother was planning to emigrate to the U.S. with her and her sister Elda, it took many years and two attempts to be able to finally board the Italian liner “Saturnia”. The passport was issued by Italy and “renamed” her to Daniela as the closest Italian translation to Danica. Arriving at Ellis Island, NY on December 1, 1931, she and her family were eventually re-united with their father who had been state-side working to send for them. Somewhere along the line of converting to American documents, her name was again changed to Diana. After meeting her fellow Croatian sweetheart, Capt. George Bark, whom she later married, he lovingly referred to her as “Danny”. Diana began school, not speaking a word of English and eventually graduating from New York Textile High School. She became an artisan, wielding fabric into beautiful garments as a seasoned seamstress which became her life long career. She had many artistic talents and also volunteered endlessly with her sister; providing assistance to their local churches and devoted over 25 years to St. Rose of Lima’s thrift store in Massapequa, NY. During WWII, Diana modeled her native Croatian regional dress in order to help support the sale of war bonds. Diana and George Bark (deceased) were married 66 years and had four children and three grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Eric Bark and is survived by two sons and one daughter. Dr. Gregory Bark, wife Carol Chapman and their two children Chloe and Blaise of Massapequa, NY; Lance Bark of Coconut Creek, FL; Stacey Tufts and companion Tom Mallett of Worcester, MA; grandson Vincent Tufts and Fiancé Amy Cogan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Diana is also survived by her niece and two nephews and their families. Diana has gone on to be with her Spirit family, re-uniting with her beloved husband, family and friends of a beautiful lifetime. She will be missed by all and truly is part of an amazing generation we owe our gratitude to. She is a legacy, having been a wonderful wife, mother and teacher of strength and fortitude. Long live her Spirit and Light. Visitation will be Saturday, March 7th, from 11:00AM-11:30AM, with a Memorial Service at 11:30AM, at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.
