CALDWELL, Norman Eugene of Pompano Beach, passed away on Sunday, April 12. Norman was born in Mooresville, NC, on September 1, 1947 and lived in Charlotte until 1959 when he moved to South Florida with his family. He attended Florida State University and lived and worked for several years in Jackson, Mississippi before returning to South Florida. It was then that he transformed his love and passion for nature and the Everglades from hobby to career, driving airboats and guiding archeological digs, moonlit canoe and school field trips. He loved to fish, was an avid reader, studied the history of Florida and its inhabitants, and was a wealth of information and lore. He was constantly amazed by the Everglades, its beauty and mystery. He spent his last years as an Everglades Day Safari eco-tour guide and truly loved his work and the land. Norman is predeceased by father Jack Caldwell and mother Thelma Caldwell of Plantation, and brother Scott Caldwell of Columbia, SC. He is survived by sister Thana Leary and brother-in-law Brian Leary of Fort Lauderdale, sister-in-law Leslie Caldwell of Columbia, SC, and nephews Christopher Leary of Plantation and Thomas Leary of Toronto, Canada, aunts Margaret Goodrum of Mooresville and Marilyn Caldwell of Atlanta , uncle and aunt Eugene and Faye Christie of Macon, GA, and many cousins.
