Paul Lawrence Dunbar Richardson, Jr. known to many as “Gomez, P.J., Paul Jr., Pablo, Paulie, and Mr. Paul" was born on September 14, 1948 in Key West, FL. Paul passed away at the age of 66 in his home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Paul Lawrence Dunbar Richardson, Sr. and Anna Rose Valdez Richardson; maternal grandmother Edna Madeline Sawyer Valdez Howard and fraternal grandmother Hannah Olivia Waltens Richardson.
Paul was surrounded by his loving children, Renata Richardson and Paul Lawrence Dunbar Richardson, III (Sherine) and grandchildren, Nathan Reid, Cherise Richardson (grandchildren by son and wife) and Adoni Wollaston (daughter’s son).
Left to mourn are four sisters: Paulette Tynes, Gwendolyn Sommers (Vaughn), Elvira Sawyer (Clarence) and Ramona Richardson (Key West), two Maternal aunts Consuelo Pinder and Maximina Knighten (Key West). He also leaves also to mourn loving nieces and nephews Benita Ferguson (Michael), Valencia Killingsworth (Gerald); Franchesca Briere (Tyrele), Isaiah Sommers, RachelSommers-Williams (Arthur), Miriam and Madeline Sommers; Clifford Sawyer (Larry) and Cicley Sawyer-Holliman (David) and Ramon Richardson, Sr. (Jennifer).
Other's left to mourn is Paul's only Godchild, Tavaris Kee(Ft. Lauderdale) and a dedicated and very close cousin/best friend Ronald Spencer Thompson retired Air Force (Okinawa, Japan) (Tami). Also left in heartfelt sorrow are a caring ex-wife Renee Wallace and her family members that were also devout and caring are Rose Kee(Renee's mother), John Kee ( ex-brother in-law) and Lisa Channer-Kee (ex sister-in law); amongst numerous friends, family, colleagues and classmates.
Paul continued his membership at Cornish Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Rev. Rochelle Pearson-Major, Pastor.
During his youth, Paul attended Frederick Douglas School and Key West High School where he played football. Paul was also a Boy Scout. Upon graduating from high school in 1967, Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served tours of duty in both the Philippines and Vietnam.
During his military service, he received several military commendations, including, but not limited to the Purple Heart.
Upon his return to Key West, Paul was employed as a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff. Years later, he worked at the United States District Court as Head of Court Security for the Marshals services. He worked at the local movie theater (Lincoln Theater) as the film projectionist. Paul was also worked as a transit bus driver for the City of Key West, as well as driver for the Key West Conch Train. Paul and his ex-wife (Renee) were also owners of the Pink Vac, where Paul was also the repairman.
Paul’s community services included training and membership with the Bahama Conch Community Land Trust & Bahama Village Heritage Capacity. He was also a lifeguard at the community. He was a life time member and post commander of The American Legion Post #168. In Key West, he received many other awards, certificates and recognitions.
Freinds will be recevied on Saturday at the T.M. Ralph Platnation Fuenral Home 7001 NW 4 Street Platnation, FL 33317from 4:00-PM until the time of the service. A funeral service will be held at 5:00PM, with military honors. Cremation arrangments by T.M.Ralph Platnation Fuenal Home 954 587-6888
