Mary Jeannette “Jean” Hanes (Sadler) of Plantation, Florida began her walk in Heaven’s gardens on Monday, July 27, 2015. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William “Bill” Hanes; brother, Donald Sadler (Bernice) of Olmsted Township, OH; sons William Jr. (Darlene) and Daniel (Kathy) both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and daughter Heidi (Frank) of Cumming, GA. Grammy Jean also leaves behind six grandchildren (Danny, Andrew, Ali, Coral, Frankie, Nathan) and great grandchildren (Tyler, Haleigh, Jackson and soon-to-be-born-Mylo). Jean received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1943, and she and Bill were avid Spartan fans. She was a lifetime member of the Romeo chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. After moving to Hollywood, she and Bill helped found St. James in the Hills Episcopal Church. While living in Plantation, Jean co-founded the Plantation Historical Society, and was a member of The Friends of the Helen B. Hoffman Library, The Hibiscus Garden Club, and The Plantation Art Guild. She was named inaugural Woman of the Year for the City of Plantation in 1977 and was also recognized as a Plantation Pioneer in 2004. Most recently, she was honored at the Plantation Holiday Parade as a city founder. Her life-long passion for painting can be seen hanging on the walls of her home and the walls of loved ones homes and was also frequently showcased at Plantation’s library and Deicke Auditorium. In addition to art, Jean also enjoyed traveling extensively to places such as China, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and the Norwegian fjords. Her exuberance and zest for life will be missed by all, but all should know that she is at peace.
