Virigie Lee Hammonds

Hammonds, Virgie Spangler November 15, 1922- August 3, 2015   Virgie was up in Butterfly Gap of Maryville, Tennessee. She worked at the Alcoa Aluminum plant during World Word II.  In Fort Lauderdale she worked at Coral Ridge Hospital in the dietary department until the age of 78.   Moving with her husband Hullar “Gabby” Hammonds to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1947. Then, Fort Lauderdale was a small town with State Rd 7 being a 2-lane highway. Andytown & 27 being the only thing west.  Now we have a Sawgrass expressway and Grandson Michael and Granddaughter Teri have a nice house were the swamp used to be. She still recognized State Road 7 because the Georgia Pig is still there.    Virgie Spangle Hammonds is preceded in death by husband Hullar, parents Lula and Jacob Spangler, daughter Betty, Sons, Norman, Robert and his wife Mary, & sons in law Red & grandson Bobby, Sister Lorine and brothers Edward and Orville.   Survived by daughter Nell Hampton of TN, Sue (Carl) Palmer, Lula Shaver, sons Donald (Judy) Hammonds of TTN, Gary (Debra Hammonds, granddaughters Teri, Jamie, Melissa, Billee, Teresa, Brenda, Cindy & Sherry. Grandsons Bron, Eddie, Robbie Michael, Donnie, Chris, Daniel, Jeff King, David, Jeff Dolan, Ricky & Michael H. Great grandchildren Deanne, Josh KC, Bobbi, Katelyn, Dylan, Amanda, Edward, DJ, Toni, Justin, Jessie, Charlie, Amy, Haley, Stacey, Brendan, Chloe & Madison, lost the count of great grandchildren in TN and great great grandchildren.   Nieces Rachel Ann & Marsha, Carmy & Joann of TN, Sandra & Brenda of Ga, nephews Steve and Robert of GA.   Thanks to the wonderful help given by the Willow Team of Hospice By the Sea. She was able to be at Home and visited by family. She was still active at age 92, and until 2 months ago she got up every morning and make her bed, still complaining because Daughter didn’t make hers. Visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 10-11AM. Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 AM at  Lauderdale Memorial Park 2001 Southwest 4 th Avenue Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Arrangements by T.M.
