Anthony Ritornato

February 12, 1925 — August 29, 2015

Ritornato, Anthony John (Tony), 90, of Plantation, beloved husband of the late Wanda (Skip) Ritornato, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2015.  He was devoted to his family, and happiest when they and their friends were with him.  Throughout his children’s high school and college years, as well as his 2 oldest grandchildren’s, he welcomed their friends into his home. Born in Buchanan, New York, to John and Mary Ritornato, Tony was a WW II Army veteran.  He graduated from Siena College with a degree in Economics, and married Skip on November 15, 1947.  They moved to South Florida in 1951, and eventually settled in Hialeah, where they joined the newly formed Immaculate Conception Parish.  Tony and Skip were long-time, active members at Immaculate, and Tony joined the Knights of Columbus Father Flynn Council, where he served as Grand Knight, and joined the 4th degree, and became a State Officer.  After moving to Plantation in 1973, they joined St. Gregory’s Parish, where Tony served as a lecturer and Eucharistic minister.  He was a founding president of the St. Thomas Aquinas High School Booster Club, working tirelessly to help get the now famous football program started. Tony was a loving and supportive father to Shelly Ritornato of Washington, DC, Marcy Callahan of Plantation, Todd (Corrie) Ritornato of Coconut Creek, and Toni (Robert) Fitzgerald of Davie.  He took tremendous joy in his grandchildren:  Christopher and Casey Callahan, Nicholas and Katie Ritornato, and Timothy, Kathryn, and Kerry Fitzgerald.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Action Network.  Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3rd, 5:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home Plantation, 7001 NW 4th St.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 4th, 10:00 AM at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 200 N University Dr, Plantation.  Graveside services will be held at 12:45 PM at South Florida VA National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth.
