Mary Tannen was born to William and Helen Nyland In Philadelphia, PA. She passed away at her home on September 27, 2015. She had been a resident of the South Florida area since 1956. She was most proud of her family’s military service, which included herself, her sister Kay Wahl, and her brother William Nyland. She served during WWII with the US Navy in Washington DC as assistant to the director of Armed Force Chaplains. She was married to Michael Francis Rafferty who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Kathleen (Robert) Dirks, Kevin (Fran) Rafferty, and Maureen Breiul, her brother and sister, grandchildren Lauren and John Dirks, Jennifer, Michael and Kyle Rafferty, and James Breiul; and many nieces and nephews, She was also preceded in death by the love of her life Phil Tannen to whom she was married to for 10 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday October 9th, 11:00 AM At St. Bernard Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at South Florida VA National Cemetery.
