Robert James Godfrey entered into his eternal reward on All Souls Day, October 31, 2015.
Bob was born in Chicago Illinois on February 8, 1954 to James and Dorothy Godfrey and moved to North Miami as a child. He graduated in 1972 from Chaminade Preparatoy School.
As a youth, Bob enjoyed playing baseball, but as a young adult he developed a handicap which took many treatment modalities, medications and years to get under control. Bob was knowledgeable of many subjects, politics and sports to name a few; he was the Sun Sentinel's most ardent reader and would read the daily paper cover to cover and know all the names in all the stories; if you spoke with him, you might think he was the mayor of the city. Bob was a devout Catholic who attended mass every day and served as an usher at St. Bernard's Parish in Sunrise. He particularly enjoyed going out for a good steak dinner.
Bob always inquired how friends and family were doing and would be proud of their accomplishments.
After his father, Jim, died in 2004, Bob took excellent care of his mother Dorothy as she lived with dementia. Both Bob and Dorothy moved to St. Joseph' ALF in Lauderdale Lakes when he lost the ability to walk due to an injury from a fall. Until the last days of his life Bob remained an outstandingly caring and devoted son to his mother; he did not have a mean bone in his body.
In addition to his mother, Bob is survived by his sister Kathy Breitenkam, brother-in-law, Hank Breitenkam, nieces, Ashley Corey (Clint), Emily Barker (George) and Jillian Thebeau Hernandez, great nieces, Gabriela Thebeau, Capri Corey, Teagan Barker, Gracyn Barker and Rylie Hawkes, and great nephews, Eric Thebeau Jr. , and Addison Corey.
Bob's family wishes to thank the staff of St. Joseph's ALF and Catholic Hospice for the kindness and dignity they provided to Bob.
A private family funeral will be held with internment at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale. If you would like to honor Bob, In lieu of flowers take a friend out for a good steak dinner.
