Obituary for Carol Beckham
Faye Carol Allred Beckham slipped peacefully into waiting arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sunday November 29, 2015, aged 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Speight and Dena Perry Allred, of Asheboro, NC, her brother Adrian (the late Harolene) Allred, and nieces and nephews Kyle Allred, Kent Allred, Kimber Pilkington, and Kirk Allred.
Carol was born in Randolph County, NC, on October 21, 1928, and graduated from Asheboro High School. She attended Mars Hill College for two years before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Rick, with whom she spent 67 wonderful years. Rick and Carol moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1952 after Rick graduated from Georgia Tech University. Carol worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses as well as serving as an organist for various local funeral homes, but her first responsibility was her husband and two children. She was not the traditional homemaker, but family was so very important to her.
Carol spent the last two decades of her life at Covenant Village of Florida, where she and Rick worked in the library and were fixtures at Plantation Community Church. She sang in the choir and accompanied various musical groups at the church, as well as playing for the weekly service at Covenant Village. Carol loved to play games, made a delicious chicken salad, and was a marvelous musician.
Carol is survived by her beloved husband Richard; daughter Adria Beckham Cary, son David (Andy) Beckham; grandchildren Megan (Beckham) Shaw, Richie Beckham, Rob Cary; great-grandchildren Dylan, Grayson, and Aubrey Shaw, and other cousins.
The family especially would like to thank Muriel Bowen of Lynden Nursing Service for the love, extraordinary care, and many kindnesses she showered on Carol during the past six months. She made Carol’s time away from Rick bearable. Many thanks also are extended to Julia Sibbio of Vitas Hospice for her care of and concern for Carol and the family.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015, 1:00 PM, at Plantation Community Church, with fellowship after the service in the fellowship hall.
