William O. Benjamin

October 14, 1943 — January 5, 2016

In Memory of William Oswald Benjamin October 14, 1943 – January 5, 2016 “The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow William Oswald Benjamin of Margate Florida passed away unexpectedly on Jan 5, 2016 after a brief illness. William was born in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana on October 14, 1943. He was the third child born to Cecil and Harriet Benjamin. William migrated to the United States in 1968 and he married his wife Desiree in 1969. Their union lasted for over 46 years. William was nicknamed “Willie” by close family and “Benjie” by his friends. William was known for his passion and his loyalty to family and friends. He was loved by many and his personality was larger than life itself. The above quote was one of his favorites and he recited it often. It epitomized his passion, his drive, and his zest for life. His personality filled every room. Once you’ve met him, you could never forget him. He left a lasting impact on every person he met and touched all of their lives. William is survived by his wife, Desiree; his son Andrew, daughter-in-law Trecia, grandchildren Andrew Jr., Matthew, Trecian, and great grandchild Nazyiah; his daughter, Dondra, son-in-law Joseph and grandchildren Jayson and Danyelle; his son William Jr. and daughter-in-law Cassandra; and his daughter, Drinda;; His brothers, Ronald, Oscar, Pelham, Frederick, and Hyranne; his sisters, Elaine and Nolisa; and an abundance of nieces, nephews and cousins.
