Monsignor Edmond Francis Whyte, 77, Pastor of St Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church of Southwest Ranches, Florida passed away January 23, 2016.

Monsignor was born in Rathea, County Kerry, Ireland to Margaret Sheehy and Edmond Whyte. He attended Rathea Elemntary School. He attended Cardiff Wales Seminary, Mount Mellery Seminary in Waterford, Ireland where he studied philosophy. He then went on to St. Patricks College, Carlow where he studied Dogmatic and Moral Theology. He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 6, 1964 by Bishop Thomas Keogh. Monsignor was assigned to the Archdiocease of Miami, and served as Assistant Pastor at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Fort Lauderdale from 1964-1967. He then was assigned to St. Brendans in Miami from 1967-1970. He was appointed Pastor at St. Justin Martyr in Key Largo, where he built his first church. He then was assigned as Pastor of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Miami Lakes, where he built a new church and new School. He served as Pastor there until January 1996. His final pastoral assignment was at St. Mark the Evangelist in Southwest Ranches. Under his leadership, St. Mark Elementary School and Pre School was constructed, as well as the Parish Church. He also was the founding Supervising Principal at Archbishop Mc Carthy High School. He was appointed Monsignor in 2013 by Pope Benedict. His more than 50 years of service to the Archdiocease of Miami will be forever remembered.
Monsignor is survived by his brother Sean W. Whyte, sisters Mary Heaphy, Elizabeth O’Connor, Anne Fitzmaurice, Eileen Sheehy; his sister in law, brothers in law, many nieces, nephews all in Ireland. Locally his sister Margaret Kenny, brother in law Kevin Kenny, nephews Kevin P. (Nicole) Kenny & Edmond F.(Wendy) Kenny and their children survive him.
