Dorothy Jane Griffin

Griffin, Dorothy Jane, 85, of Davie, passed away on February 20, 2016. Dorothy was born in Miami, Florida during the Great Depression, and her family was one of the Pioneer Families of Davie. She was a life-long resident of Davie, raised on a dairy farm that is now 441 and SR 84, and graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1948. Dorothy met and married her first husband, Finley J. Dunlevy Jr., and together they had two children, David and Ann. Finley passed away in 1974. In her early 60’s, she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Richard A. “Dick” Griffin Sr., and together, they were married in 1995. They lived on a horse and cattle farm in Ocala until Dick passed away in 2007. Dorothy had a lifelong career as a Dental Assistant; loved to travel, including several trips to Europe with her daughter, Ann; several other trips she enjoyed were Alaska, Vancouver and driving up the coast of New England with her husband, Dick and various family members. Dorothy will be remembered fondly as the best mother ever, as a strong role model, loving her kids and loving her grandchildren, never met a stranger, and most of all loving a good time. She is survived by her son, David Dunlevy and daughter, Ann Dunlevy; sister-in-law, Carol Suarez; stepchildren, Richard (Maria) Griffin, Daniel (Gina) Griffin, Pam Griffin, Ginger Martin, Nancy (Terry) Lamfers, Tim (Jeanne) Griffin, Jim Griffin, and Janet (Kenny) Forbes; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husbands, Finley J. Dunlevy Jr and Richard A. (Dick) Griffin Sr., and her step-son, Jeff Griffin. Visitation will be Thursday, from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:00 AM at St. David Catholic Church with interment immediately following at Lauderdale Memorial Park.
