Martin G. "Marty" Poplar

Poplar, Martin G. "Marty” passed away March 7. 2016. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Michael and Ann Poplar. He graduated from Holy Name High School in Ohio, and earned his undergraduate & masters degree from John Carroll University. Marty’s passion was St. Thomas Aquinas High School where he taught and coached for thirty plus years. He was an assistant football coach and helped guide the Raiders to 4 state championships. "Pops" enjoyed great success as head coach of the girl’s golf team and won state championships with them as well. He is survived by his brother Thomas (Penny), sister Tina Stransky, his sister in law Sunnie and 13 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Michael Poplar,Jr. and brother in law Michael Stransky. Marty’s lifelong friends Jim Prentiss, and George Smith are acknowledged with gratitude. Visitation Thursday 6:30 –9:00 PM at the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home 7001 NW 4 Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Thomas More Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, next to his parents.
