Harold Cornett was born in Viper, Kentucky, on May 14, 1925, and died on March 26, 2016. He was the son of James D. and Laura Branson Cornett. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rains Cornett, whom he married on April 26, 1958 in Gadsden, AL. Surviving children are Catherine Cornett Fox (Andrew) of Tulsa, OK, and Michael James Cornett (Joyce) of Cumming, GA, with grandchildren Lauren and Elizabeth Fox of Tulsa, OK, and Daniel Cornett of Cumming, GA. He is also survived by sisters Eula Campbell, Leesburg, FL, and Olene Hall, Fairborn, OH, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bobby J. and Jennie Rains of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and ten beloved nephews and nieces. Following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. Harold served in the Communications section of the USS Fremont and the USS Estes. Following his Honorable Discharge, he obtained his accounting degree from the University of Kentucky. He remained an avid wildcat basketball fan throughout his life, and was very proud to be named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was employed as an auditor for Associates Financial Services in South Bend, IN until 1976 when he joined Kenworth Truck of South Florida as Chief Financial Officer. He has been retired since 1991. He was a member of Davie United Methodist Church. He has been an active member of Lago Mar Country Club since 1983, where he served on the Board as Treasurer, and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. The family wants to especially thank Dr. Luis Barreras for his loving care and devotion. Funeral arrangements will be handled by T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Street, Plantation, FL 33317. Services will be held at Davie United Methodist Church on Friday, April 1, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M. with funeral services at 10:30 A.M. followed by a lunch at the church. Graveside military service will be held at 2:15 P.M. at the National VA Cemetery in Palm Beach County, FL.
