Isaia, Peter Arthur

Peter Arthur Isaia lost his valiant battle with lung cancer surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Isaia was born to Lucy and Raphael Isaia on Valentine’s Day in Brooklyn, NY which he often called “the capital of the world”. At 14 years old his first job was as a runner for W.E. Hutton, a Wall Street Brokerage firm, delivering securities to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. At 16 years old he went to work for the former New York Trust Company On Broadway and Wall opposite Trinity Church and completed his high school education at night. At 19 years old he enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his two cousins. Straight out of boot camp he was original crew of the newly commissioned aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Oriskany which was the first aircraft carrier in history to round Cape Horn entering the Pacific to fight in the Korean War after two shakedown cruises to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and a goodwill tour in the Mediterranean. When he returned from the Mediterranean he met the love of his life the former Anita Sciarrillo and within 4 months they were married April 19, 1952. The last year of his four-year enlistment he served at the Moffett Naval Air Station in Mountain View, California and after being separated for a year while he was in Korea, Anita joined him there. Although he served as an Aviation Mechanic in the Navy and achieving the rank of Third Class Petty Officer, he returned to his job at the New York Trust Company and after four years there he moved his growing family to Miami, Florida and worked at the First National Bank of Miami as a Trust Officer. Mr. Isaia went through mergers and acquisitions at the time and worked in various banking institutions in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. His last job was the former Capital Bank as the managing Vice President and Senior Trust Officer and Division Head for their banks in three counties, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Before retiring after 50 years of experience in the administration of trusts, estates, and tax planning, he also was a member past President of the Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami, and member of the Estate Planning Council of Broward County, East Coast Estate Planning Council, Inc. and a member of the Corporate Fiduciaries Association of Southeast Florida. As a former member of the Board of Governors of Barry University, Mr. Isaia served as Chairman of the University’s Endowment Committee and also was instrumental as a Fund Raiser for the Sylvester Cancer Center. Mr. Isaia was a member of the Florida Bankers Association, the Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois, he obtained his certification and designation as a Certified Financial Counselor. Mr. Isaia introduced and conducted “The Probate Forum”, an estate planning seminar in three counties for 8 years for which he received a Meritorious Service Award from the South Florida Bar Members for providing quality legal education. Mr. Isaia leaves his devoted wife Anita of 64 years, his loving children Mark, (Marcy), Michael, Lucia (Michael Hotchkiss), his adored grandchildren Janelle (Alex Kelso) Stephanie and Alex Isaia, Tara and Kelsey Hotchkiss. He is also survived by his sister and brother in law Marie and Al Barbuto of Old Brookville, Long Island and dear nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime precious friends. Special thanks to Dr. David Drew and his staff at Holy Cross Cancer Center for their expertise and understanding. Also heartfelt thanks to Vitas Hospice Nursing Staff who were angels of mercy. Visitation will be Thursday 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at the T. M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home 7001 NW 4 Street Plantation, FL. Mass will be held Friday 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton 1401 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. Entombment will take place at Ascension Cemetery, The Guardian Angel Mausoleum in Lake Forest, California.
