Todd Michael Schoonover

April 6, 1963 — September 17, 2016

Schoonover, Todd Michael passed away September 17, 2016. He will be forever loved by his family and freinds.Todd was born to Bob and Lois Schoonover in Goshen, New York in 1963 and spent his early years in Monroe. When he was five years old, he moved to Plantation with his two brothers, Bob, the oldest, and Kip, the youngest. Growing up, Todd was known as the protector of his brothers, there was nothing he would not do to defend them; however, he was a gentle giant. Todd loved all animals and insects. He wouldn’t kill a bee, wasp, or roach, always insisting upon setting them free because “they weren’t bothering you!” Todd met his future wife, Tracie, right across the street from his parent’s home. Every day he would sit under the street lamp outside waiting for her. Todd and Tracie grew up together and eventually fell in love, dating throughout high school. In 1981, Todd graduated from Plantation High School, and through his early 20s learned the ropes of the automotive business. He became a machinist, later successfully opening his own shop, Accurate Automotive Machine: Auto and Marine. In 1983 he married the love of his life, loving and supporting her financially as she went through nursing school. He spent the next 33 years of their marriage making her happy. Todd loved the Keys. He made countless memories there every weekend with family and friends. He was the happiest when he was driving in his boat. Todd also enjoyed fishing, diving, and catching lobster, becoming a pro, which supplied his family and many other families with wonderful seafood dinners. Todd and Tracie have two children, Todd who is 27 and Sarah who is 18. When they were little, Todd coached his son’s basketball, soccer, and baseball teams, and taught his daughter Sarah how to throw a softball, never missing a single one of her games. Todd wanted to make sure his kids loved the ocean as much as he did. He taught them to drive boats, dive, catch lobster and fish so that they could explore the Keys for themselves. Todd was very giving. He loved making breakfast and dinner for his family, his signature dish was conch fritters. He would do anything for his family. He moved his brother, Bob, into three different houses, never complaining, out loud, about his bulky Tempur-Pedic bed. He spent countless hours helping to renovate his son’s house. No matter how tired he was from work, he always went over to help with whatever project they were trying to complete. Todd was also the designated ‘critter catcher’, often being called by his sister-in-law, when her husband was out of town, to safely remove the snakes, frogs, and raccoons from her house, and always scaring the lizards out of Sarah’s room and car. Todd, you were a beloved husband, father, son, and brother. You were our whole life. Words can never express what you meant to us. And we know from every action you did, from every word that you spoke, until the end, that you loved us too. You will never be forgotten. You will always be in our hearts. We love you, your family and friends. Arrangements by T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home 954 587-6888
