Victor George Hinds, 77, died at sunrise on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Victor was born on June 29, 1939 to Harold Hinds and Ida James in St. Ann, Jamaica, British West Indies. He spent his childhood at Skipton, the family property on the outskirts of Brownstown, before leaving for England as a teenager.
After seventeen years in England, he set sail for the United States of America, settling in New York, New York. Victor worked over 25 years as a Tool Engineer at Merrill Brothers of Mazpeth, New York. Though the work was hard and hot, he was justifiably proud of the metal work his hands wrought. Evenings and weekends, he served as bar tender at one of the 34 Blarney Stone Pubs in Manhattan. When Merrill Bros relocated to Canada, he became the manager for Defender Security Services of Rego Park, New York.
Victor retired to Lauderhill, Florida in 2001, where he resided in Las Vistas at Inverrary Condominiums until his death. He became an integral part of this vibrant community, assuming the role of Resident Director, Security Guard (since retired), and Board Member in addition to being a valued neighbor and friend.
Victor George Hinds is mourned by his loving wife, Claudette Johnson Hinds; beloved children, Laura Lorraine and Aston Findlay Hinds; and his adoring daughter-in-law, Leah Xenia Hynansky; a close aunt, Annie Mears; attentive cousins Clarence (Jr) and Alfred Mears; a caring niece Asneth (June) Council; as well as a loyal brother-in-law, Winston Johnson.
Though predeceased by numerous family members, Victor also leaves to mourn brothers: Kenneth, Leepert, and Purchase Hinds; sisters Veronica (Gloria) Simms, Eulalee (Cherry) Miller, and Ives (Chiquita) Faulknor; in addition to a host of other family, neighbors, and friends.
A Viewing and Prayer Service will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home Plantation; immediately followed by a Memorial Repast at the Las Vistas at Inverrary Club House from 7:30-9 PM.
