Marlene A Terziu

February 27, 1944 — March 31, 2017

Marlene Anita Terziu, lovingly known as Marti passed away March 31, 2017.  She was reunited with her son, John David "JD", whom she longed for from the time of his death.  She was born of Russian descent and raised in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Her beloved parents Philip and Esther Binderman preceded her in death. She graduated from High School in Montgomery County, and then attended University of Maryland. While in school her passion for acting and theater started. She married Jack Terziu, and had her son John David. Together Marti and JD moved to South Florida in the early 1970’s. She worked for a period of time for the Broward County Classroom Teachers Association in administrative support, and continued her career with the City of Plantation as the Secretary to the Fire Chief. During her tenure she was promoted to Administrative Assistant, then Support Chief, responsible for the Administrative Staff. She retired from the Fire Department in April of 2010 with 26 years of service. Among her many duties Marti handled and managed all fire department records and documents as well as producing many of the published documents still in use today. She also served as Secretary for the Association from 2011 through 2014. Marti is credited with developing the Fire Prevention Poster & Essay Contest which began in 1985 and has become a City-wide tradition. After joining the Department, she also helped produce the Miss Flame contest which ran from the 1960s until 1989. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, in addition to her employment, she held numerous roles in local and national commercials and voice over productions. Professionally in the SAG world she was known as Marti Montgomery. She was a talented character actress who shared her gifts, not only professionally in television and film, but also in local community theater.  She was active in the Plantation Players, Hollywood Playhouse, Parker Playhouse and numerous other venues. She always encouraged others to pursue performing, and often took people to their first performance of live theater.  She was thrilled to be invited, and enthusiastically attended numerous school plays, concerts, and performances of friends or their children.  She put her own talents to work with the Fire Department helping to produce the training series “The guys from Station 8.” Always an involved and helping person, after retiring, she had the opportunity to travel, and continued to be active member of many organizations. She remained connected with her former City Friends with the Plantation Retirees and Want to Bes, she participated in support of political causes, volunteered in election campaigns, and the National Organization of Women. Upon moving into the Lauderdale West Community, she starting several bunco groups. She was an active member of Plantation Women’s Club, several Red Hat Clubs, and was always involved in a project. Marti had a special talent for connecting people and getting them involved in a cause from cancer support, to animal rescues, to volunteering in support of the Plantation Fire Association or introducing others to a new charitable organization or to individual causes that benefitted others.  She is survived by her brother and sister in law  Mark and Mary Binderman of Stoneham, MA; her niece Rachel (Jason) Jordan and their children, Isla and Houston, and other loving family members, adopted family, and circle of friends. Friends were  received on April 7, 2017  at the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home 7001 NW 4 Street Plantation, Fl 33317.  A Funeral  Service was held at 11:00 AM, with Chaplain Walter Volz officiating. In remembering Marti, please continue to support the organizations she so loved, including St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Humane Society or animal rescue, or an organization that promotes the arts, especially theater.  Arrangements by T.M.
