Agnes Katherine (Sydlik) Melesenka, 92, of Sunrise, Florida, formerly of Butler, Pa, passed away June 8th, 2024 at Florida Medical Center Hospice Care Unit in Lauderhill, Florida. She was born in Brackenridge, Pa. January 20th 1932 to the late Sam Melesenka and Anna Kapsa Melesenka.
Agnes always wore a beautiful smile on her face. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors, coworkers, her children’s friends and any one she came in contact with. She never had an issue of setting another plate at her table. That woman could cook! Her baking was amazing. She passed this gene to her children who enjoy to cook and bake as much as she did.
She attended Saint Mathias School under the name of Agnes Kanis and later graduated from Vincentian High School class of 1951.
After high school she married Thaddeus Sydlik and had eight children. As if eight children didn’t keep her busy enough, she always had other people’s children in the house including grandchildren, neighbor’s and foster children. Agnes’ house was always busy; always loud.
Agnes worked at Sunnyview Nursing Home as an aide for years. And every fall into winter would work at a second job at Perkin’s Pancake House to pay for school clothes and Christmas for her children. She wasn’t afraid to work.
Agnes was greeted at heavens gates by all that went before her. Her parents Sam and Anna Melesenka and her son Timothy (Sydlik) Melesenka. All her sisters and their husbands Helen (Stephen) Kosmal, Pauline (Edward) Durana, Josephine (Nevin) Leezer and Maxine (Peter) Chovan. Her brother William Melesenka and his wife Barbara and her brother Frank Melesenka. Also there to meet her was her best friend Lois Arnold with whom she worked with, crocheted and traveled with.
She leaves behind with broken hearts five daughters Roxann (Jerald) Twentier, Cynthia (Kent) Collingwood, Robin Sydlik, Kimberly (David) Cousins and Monica (James) Wallace. Also mourning her are her two sons Alan and Francis Sydlik.
Agnes was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Today, as we bid farewell to Agnes Melesenka let us not dwell on our loss but celebrate the gift of her life.
