Ana G. Leyva Martinez, lovingly known as "Ana Banana," was born on January 3, 1967, in Cuba. She passed away on November 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family and profession.
Ana spent over 30 years as a devoted manager at Memorial Hospital West, specifically on the 3 West unit, where she earned the respect and admiration of not only her patients but also her colleagues. Her proudest accomplishments included obtaining her Master's degree in nursing from Phoenix University, as well as her initial nursing qualifications from Florida International University and Broward College. Her education was not just a personal milestone; it represented her commitment to helping those in need—a calling she answered every day of her career.
Her warm spirit and welcoming personality made her a cherished friend to many. Ana was known for her ability to put others at ease with her great sense of humor and calming presence. She often went out of her way to lend a hand, whether through small gestures or simply being a listening ear.
Ana found immense joy in spending quality time with her family, especially creating cherished memories during "girls' days," work events, and trips with her daughters, Emily and Alexa Leyva. The trio affectionately referred to themselves as the "three amigos," representing a bond that brought laughter and love into their lives. Ana also shared a close connection with her brother Luis and maintained strong friendships with Odelio, her ex-husband, as well as her friends Brisa and Tuni, whose presence enriched her life. Additionally, her heart swelled with pride for her godchildren, Mya and Jaden, who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to her life.
Ana’s interests included shopping, taking adventurous trips, trying new food spots, and enjoying time with her loved ones. She was always looking for opportunities to create lasting memories, igniting those around her with her vibrant spirit.
Ana is survived by her loving daughters, Emily and Alexa Leyva, her brother Luis, and close friends Brisa, Tuni, and her extended 3 West family. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Margarita; father, Joaquin; and her best friend, Eddy.
A funeral mass will be held in her honor at St. David Catholic Church on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by her interment at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Ana will be deeply missed but will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of compassion, humor, and diligence will continue to inspire many.
