Angel Fernandez passed away June 21, 2018 at home in the loving arms of his wife, Jovita. He immigrated from Cuba in 1949 because he had a dream, the American dream. He became a naturalized citizen but kept his Cuban roots in all he did. Nothing could stop him from his dreams. He met Jovita shortly after his arrival in New York. They married and have been together for 66 years. Together they had two children Barbara and Angelo. He worked hard to build a comfortable life for his family. He went from building carburetors to owning several successful businesses. He retired from Decimal Engineering in Pompano, FL. As a young husband and father he was active in the Catholic Church and instilled in his children faith, love and kindness. He loved to party and was a great dancer. As recent as a year ago he was on the dance floor in his wheelchair taking a spin. But as a father, he was exceptional. He wanted so much for his children and grandchildren. He made sure his son and daughter took advantage of educational opportunities. He was so proud that both his children and grandchildren obtained college degrees. He always said, “No matter what job you have, do it well and give more than you have to.” He was a lifelong learner. He dabbled in art, crafts and even cooking. He instilled the love of learning in his grandchildren. He was still decorating glass figures till the day before he passed. As Angelo said in the eulogy, “He didn’t let anything stop him. Not even his failing health.” One of his latest joys was his great granddaughter, Raye, or as he called her, la princesa. He was so happy to spend time with her and watch her push his walker. He is survived by his wife, Jovita, daughter Barbara and her husband, Osvaldo Valdes, son, Angelo and his wife, Donna; four beautiful grandchildren: Osvaldo; Brittany and husband Rob; Shayla and husband, Mike; and Christopher. He also leaves behind his brother, Francisco, cousins, Rosa, Mary and Lazaro along with nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many but he is resting peacefully in heaven.
