Anita Marie LaTorre

September 10, 1953 — March 28, 2025

Plantation

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved sister, aunt, teacher and friend after a two year fight with cancer. Anita was born in Brooklyn and grew up on eastern Long Island. She graduated from Connecticut College (BA) and the University of North Carolina (MAT). She was a lifelong educator and held the positions of teacher, Dean, Principal and Director of Accreditation with the American Heritage School for almost 30 years, impacting the lives of countless students, faculty and administrators. Anita embraced the community at American Heritage School as her second family. She studied at the Sorbonne in France while in college. Anita was also fluent in four languages and loved to travel, with Paris and Seattle being among her favorite cities. She was an avid collector of antique jewelry, handbags, pocket watches and Eiffel Tower figurines and loved all things pink. Anita is survived by her sister, Laura, her brother-in-law, Vince and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 19 years, James Paleo.

Please join us in remembering her and cherishing her laughter and warrior spirit.
