Ava Muriel Lemak (née Moran)

Ava Muriel Lemak, 99, of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2025. Ava was born in Ohley, West Virginia, on May 18, 1925. Ava was the beloved daughter of Antonio (Anthony) Fernandes Moran and Edna Eyrle Moran (Buzzard).
Ava was a 1943 graduate of Franklin High School in New Athens, OH. After graduation, she was accepted into a nursing program through the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. Ava dedicated her life to a 50+ year career in professional nursing both in the United States and Germany, retiring at the age of 77.
In 1977, Ava relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida, where she worked at Broward General Medical Center (BGMC) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There she worked in many different departments in a clinical capacity and in management. She left a lasting legacy of leadership, mentorship, and advocacy for nurses at every level.
Throughout her long life, Ava was an active member and volunteer of Christ Church, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She loved to travel and experienced adventures around the world. She exercised at Broward Health Imperial Point every weekday for 30 years, attended plays and events, was an avid reader, and loved baking brownies for family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters Cindy Lemak of Coral Springs, Susan Lemak of Pompano Beach. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law Eve Durham of Coral Springs, and April Lemak of Lakewood, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Lemak, her brothers William Moran and Vincent Moran, her sister Lanila Kozy and her son Jeffrey David Lemak. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
