Barbara Claire Cantwell, 91, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at her home in Tamarac. Born April 17, 1933, in the Bronx, New York, Barbara was the daughter of Robert Rehman and Elizabeth Roemer Rehman. She graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx. After graduation, Barbara worked as a secretary at E.I. du Pont in the Empire State Building in Manhattan, and then as a secretary at Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation on Park Avenue in Manhattan. Barbara met and married Thomas Walter Cantwell from Brooklyn in 1961. Tom was a veteran of the United States Navy and a New York City firefighter. Their daughter, Laura Patricia Loffredo, was born in 1964, and their son, Thomas Robert Cantwell, was born in 1970. Barbara and Tom decided to move to sunny South Florida in 1973 to raise their family. A beautiful house with a pool on the water - to them, this was heaven! Barbara worked for Broward County Public Schools as a secretary at Village Elementary School for 20 years. After retirement, she enjoyed Florida living to the fullest. Always putting family first, she loved her sewing and craft projects, swimming and exercising, boating and fishing, cruises and photography, barbecues and pool parties, movies and luncheons, and mostly, friends and family. What a wonderful life! Barbara and Tom were married for 62 years before Tom passed away in April. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Laura Patricia Loffredo; her son, Thomas R. Cantwell; her daughter-in-law, Carley Cantwell; her grandchildren, Kelly Loffredo Blitman, Joseph Loffredo, Thomas E. Cantwell, and Audrey Cantwell; and her great-grandson, Theodore Blitman.
