Belen Henriquez born in Santurce, PR on January 15, 1934 to parents Virgilio Colon and Irma Martinez. She was a loving Sister to Enrique Colon, Cruz Celina Colon, Jose Antonio Colon, Ernesto Colon,Luis Colon, and Herbieto Colon. She was preceded in death by her husband Roberto Henriquez of 62 years. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Martinez, Irma Neves, and Sandra Calabro; son, Robert Henriquez Jr.; son-in-laws, Jose Martinez, Euripedes Neves, and Gary Calabro; daughter-in-law, Monica Castillo; grandchildren, Kristie Zapata, Marely Martinez, Gary Calabro, Brandon Calabro, Carlos Martinez, Ericka Calabro, Matthew Henriquez, and Melanie Henriquez. At a young age, Belen developed a love of math working as a clerk at her father’s corner store. Her family then moved to Manhattan, NY in the 1951 where she worked in a factory. During her time in New York she met the love of her life Roberto Henriquez. Belen and Roberto were married June 18 1955. While living in New York she had 4 children before relocating to Carolina, PR around 1968. The family lived in Puerto Rico for 10 years in Villa Fontana. Their second oldest daughter was accepted into College in Florida and the family moved again in 1978 to Hollywood, FL. Belen ran their family’s Hair Salon and even worked some years in the Bonaventure Resort. She was best known for raising her children. In 1985 she became a grandmother and subsequently was blessed with 5 additional grandchildren. She dedicated her life to her children and being an amazing caregiver to her grandchildren. Roberto and Belen were residents in both Puerto Rico and South Florida as they frequented each for months at a time. Throughout her life she traveled with her husband and family around the world, building friendships at every stop. Being a true matriarch, she loved her family fiercely, always encouraging family gatherings. Belen had a love of dancing, cooking, sewing, arts and crafts, and card games. She was known for displaying her expert level skills of outsmarting any of her opponents in the game of dominoes. She was loved by all, and will be missed by those who were fortunate to have known her. Visitation will be held at T.M. Ralph Sunrise Funeral Home, 371 NW 136th Avenue, Sunrise, FL 33325, on Sunday April 23, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A time of Family remembrance and prayer will start at 2:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 10900 W. Oakland Park Blvd. Sunrise, FL 33351, on Monday April 24, 2018, at 10:00 AM, with internment to follow at Forest Lawn South, 2401 Southwest 64 Avenue (Davie Road) Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33317.
