Bessie Ann Laiacona was born Thomasina Ann LaSala on April 14,1931. She later changed her name to Bessie Ann, and eventually liked to be called Betty.
Betty worked at the Port Authority Building in New York for United States Lines where she gazed at the Statue of Liberty every day. This is where her parents entered the country and later became American citizens.
Bessie Ann married Leonardo (Leo) Santo Laiacona on November 27, 1952 in St. Brigid Church in Brooklyn NY. They had two children Francine (Fran) and Leonard(Lenny). Bessie Ann’s husband Leo passed away on February 17, 1965.
Betty eventually moved to Plantation, Florida in 1974 where she worked for Publix for 23 years. Betty was a hard worker and a strong women, she survived bouts of cancer and a very serious broken leg.
Two years ago she moved to an assistant living facility in Greenacres, where she could be close to her son Lenny.
Betty passed away January 1, 2021.
Bessie Ann is survived by her daughter Francine Slafky M.Ed., her husband Ed and their children Eddie and his wife Aaryn, Eric and his wife Kirby. Also, her son Lenny retired EMT firefighter, and his wife Karen, and their daughter Alexa. Bessie Ann had four great-grandchildren Eddie J., Julia, Eli, and Leo Slafky.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 4:00PM-8:00PM, T. M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 10:00AM, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Boynton Beach.
Interment will take place in Long Island National Cemetery, Long Island, New York.
