Beverly Millikan Allen

November 8, 1938 — July 13, 2017

Beverly Millikan Allen passed away on July 13th surrounded by her loving family and dog, Breezy. Beverly was born on November 8, 1938 inIndianapolis, Indiana to the late Dr. William Millikan and Mary Jessie Fisher.   She graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School and attended Rollins College where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She left college early to marry the love of her life, William H. Allen, Jr (Bill). Thus the path was set for the rest of her life. As the wife of Bill and the mother of 5 children, Beverly was the quintessential manager of a large household. She should have been given an honorary degree in Organizational Management. In addition to her many motherly talents she always found time to be our school room mom, softball coach, Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, Junior League Board member, jazz & tap dancer and always managed to have a delicious home cooked meal on the table every night to share as a family – she was an incredible cook. Amazingly, in addition, she found time to do beautiful needlepoint, knitting and cross-stitching. Her homes were adorned with pillows, wall hangings and framed works of art that she had done "in her spare time". She made needlepoint Christmas stockings for all her children and friend's children. When her grandchildren were born, they also were given their own special stocking. She began making quilts and all grandbabies received a special quilt at their birth. These works of art will be cherished by all her family. After all her children finished high school, she and her best friend opened a retail store, La Paloma, on Las Olas in the mid 80’s.   Beverly grew up going to Walloon Lake in Petoskey, Michigan and this love for the lake spent with her family continued throughout her lifetime. In later years, she and Bill spent 6 months out of the year there and had many cherished friends that meant so much to them. Our father reminded us on a regular basis that our mother played a very significant role in keeping our family safe, as she was a constant and reliable source of love to all of us. She had amazing grace, a beautiful smile, extraordinary beauty inside and out and a heart of gold.   Beverly was beloved by her late husband, Bill Allen who died in 2015. She is survived by her children Jennifer Garrity (Scott), Mary Christine Birr (Jeff), Bill III, Stacey and Melissa Allen (Tony); all of whom she loved dearly. She had 15 grandchildren who she adored unconditionally. She was also fortunate to be the great grandmother of twins. She is survived by her brother Dr. William Millikan, Jr (Phyllis) and sister Sarah Jane Miller (Rodney) and sister-in-law Judy Allen Vinroot (Richard) and 7 nieces and nephews who will miss her terribly. The family wishes to thank the caregivers who provided Beverly (our mom) the love, support and companionship these last few years. The family would also like to thank Vitas Hospice for making her last days at home comfortable and peaceful. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 18th from 4-6pm at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Street, Plantation, FL 33317. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to: PAWS Assistant Dogs, Naples, FL, www.pawsassistancedogs.org, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, www.toysfortots.org, St Jude’s Hospital, www.stjude.org/give.html
