Carlton A. Andrews was born on June 8, 1929 to the late Edward Phillip George Andrews and Vivian James Andrews in Bethel Town Westmoreland, Jamaica W.I. Growing up in Jamaica, he attended Bethel Town Primary School. Carlton was a very resourceful and industrious young man, who had a strong work ethic. Unfortunately, Vivian James, his mother passed on when he was 14 years. Due to this unfortunate circumstance, Carlton quickly learned to do many things for himself, solidifying his independence. At the age of 18, he went to Montego Bay for employment as a Caretaker for Dr. Patterson. Carlton was blessed to be welcomed in the home of Clarissa Brown (Cuz), a dear family friend of his mother Vivian. He was accepted into the family like one of her very own children, Danny, Peggy and Suzie. Carlton was a distinguished man who had been blessed with may gifts. In Jamaica, we would say he was a “Jack of All Trades, Master of None”. However, we believed he mastered a few. He later moved on in his employment, into the hotel industry where he was a bartender, chef, and generally did whatever was needed. While living on his own at North Street he met his beautiful wife, Winifred sometime in 1954. Winifred being an entrepreneur was able to convince Carlton to purchase some of the beautiful items she was selling. Winifred was an ambitious mother of two (Van Johnson and Pearl Jean, who preceded Carlton in death) and he stepped in to raise them as his own. On September 15, 1957 Carlton and Winnie were united in marriage at Calvary Baptist Church in Montego Bay. They built a beautiful home in Mt. Salem, where they were owners of two businesses (Andy’s Kool Room and a Grocery Store). Their marriage produced two additional children, Andrea and Garnett. Seeking better opportunities for themselves and their family, they immigrated to the United States in the late 60’s, where they became naturalized citizens of the United States. Carlton diligently worked as shop steward for Pan American Airlines, a Cab Driver, and as a Nursing Assistant at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center until he retired in 1994. Wanting to make Florida their home, they relocated to Plantation later that year where they became a part of a wonderful village of friends and family. They joined the First Baptist Church of Plantation, where Carlton served as a Deacon. Carlton’s favorite restaurant to celebrate all occasions was Longhorn Steakhouse. His best friend of over 65 years, Charles Thompson (Uncle Billy) was always there with him. At the restaurant he had a favorite waitress, Michelle, who loved him like her own family. Michelle and her husband Jeff, would invite Carlton and Winnie to their home for Thanksgiving holiday celebrations. Carlton was known as the family historian, and put forth much effort to keep the family together. In 2017, they moved to their new home at Pacifica Forest Trace. Family and friends have assisted in taking care of him and his lovely wife Winifred, as their children live out of state. His nephew David, was truly a God Send and was there by his side until the end. Carlton was called home by the Lord on July 25, 2019. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 61 years Winifred Andrews; his daughter Andrea; his son Garnett; his daughter in-law Keiron, his adopted daughter: Althea, his grandchildren: Sonia, Vanda, Kevin, Marques, Jardan, Kiah, , and Keenan (Gary and Muffet who preceded him death) , Sister – Ivett, Brothers Ian, Alkian I, Raphael and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Brothers and Sisters who preceded him in death Uton, Dillion, Cherrianna, Naomi, Eladio, and Ralston. Arrangements by T.M. Ralph Funeral Home 371 NW 136 Avenue Sunrise, FL 33325
