Cecil Alexander de Sousa, known to his friends as Streetdreams, Scrappy Dread, or by the name he passionately hated, "babydaddy," passed away at the age of 47 on July 2, 2024, at his home in Plantation, FL, after a battle with cancer. Born on March 16, 1977, in Brooklyn, New York, Cecil was a high school graduate who attended ITT Tech, where he received his certification as an electrician. By day, he worked as a supervisor at Fiserv Financial, and by night, he was a promoter. Cecil had a passion for music, making people laugh, always supporting up-and-coming DJs and artists, and cooking for his loved ones. His community service involvement included attending Miami Carnival every year and any fete he could get to. Although he didn’t have a significant other, Cecil loved the ladies in his life. He is survived by his only beloved daughter, Nala de Sousa; his sister, Jaleesa de Sousa; his half-sister, Lenique Holder; two "brothers,” Arthur de Souza and Salim Pegus, as well as his cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was raised by two of the most important people in his life: his mother, Susane de Sousa, and his late grandmother, Yuklin “Theresa” de Sousa, who had a major influence on his Trinidadian upbringing.

The de Sousa family would like to thank all those who called, texted, and sent their thoughts and prayers from near and far. We would like to acknowledge the best friend and sidekick, Kevin Rogers, for being a night owl and answering the phone when Cecil called and went on his evening walks, and Chris “Shortpants” Zamora for always checking in on him. Cecil loved and appreciated you both, and we thank you for loving him. Finally, a very special thank you goes to his “babymama” and her husband, Lennise and Wayne Marchant; without your unconditional love and support, we don’t know how we would have navigated through this difficult time without you both. We are eternally grateful and love you.
