David Townsend Grimm, 67, of Sunrise, Florida, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 8, 2021. He was born October 1, 1954, in Tarentum, PA and moved to Coconut Creek, FL in 1967.
David began his lifelong love and dedication to aviation when he obtained his Private Pilot’s license at the age of 16. After graduating from Deerfield Beach High School in 1972, he continued at Broward Community College, graduating in 1974 with an Associate Degree in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) program.
David began his career as an air traffic controller at Opa Locka Airport and Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center. David became a flight instructor at American Flyers and advanced to the position of Chief Pilot. There are probably few airports or airline cockpits that have not landed one of his graduates. He joined Executive Jet International (EJI) in 2000 and spent the last 20 years with NetJets as a Gulfstream (GIV and GV) Captain.
David traveled the world with NetJets but mostly enjoyed his time with his wife cruising and playing slot machines. He was an avid duck hunter and relished time with his dear friends and “lake buddies”.
David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia; sons Trevor (Debbie) and Brandon, sister Betsy Ann (Don), brother Preston Grimm (Dail), sister-in-law Phyllis Adrian, brothers-in-law John and Steven Hutchings, nephews Garret (Frankie) and Nick, and the “twinkle of his eye” grand-daughter, Reagan. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Preston Clyde and Harriett Nancy (Townsend) and nephew David Scott.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, November 14th from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, with services immediately following at the T.M.
