Delores Besterda, 94, passed away on March 5, 2018. She was loved by all who met her. Born in Calumet City, IL, she and her husband, Lou, moved to Ft. Lauderdale to start their family. She was the consummate 50’s housewife that made a mean martini at cocktail hour. She raised four children while still being active in the community. From writing and distributing the Melrose Park newsletter in the 60’s to organizing Our Lady Queen of Martyrs’ annual carnival; she believed it was important to be involved. Her proudest volunteer accomplishment was to be president of the MACCW where she made life-long friends. As a proud wife of a WWII submariner, she was active in the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII, CE Whitten chapter and a long-time member of the Navy League of the U.S., Fort Laud. Council. She was predeceased by her husband Lou and her son Louie, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Carter; son Larry Besterda; daughter Lisa Besterda and grandchildren Jeff and Amanda Walters. She will also be missed by her loving companion in recent years, Fred Richards. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
