Demetrius Cyrus Georgalis, “Cy”, passed away on January 19, 2025, in Plantation, Florida at the age of 83.
Cy was born in Groton, MA, on July 16, 1941, and had two older siblings. His parents, George Georgalis and Pitsa Mantzouranis Georgalis, were immigrants to the U.S. from Karytaina, Greece. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1959 and went on to study abroad in Athens, Greece. Later, he traded in the snowy north and moved to sunny Florida with his mother and brother.
Cy will be remembered in many ways including as charismatic, intelligent, a dreamer, generous, mercurial, and sometimes a prankster. He was not one for regret and sought adventure and his legacy via, “the road less traveled”, and encouraged others to seek out their own path as well. He was a pilot and loved flying, boating in the open water, and collecting old cars. He was often seen in a three-piece suit, gave a “thumbs up” gesture to signal all is OK, and enjoyed a pipe filled with cherry tobacco on occasion.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister, Arthur and Koula. At the time of his death, he was survived by two ex-wives, four children, nine grandchildren, and his companion of the past 20+ years with whom he resided in Plantation, Florida.
Demetrius Cyrus Georgalis is buried at Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Gardens East in Hollywood, FL with his brother and mother.
Cy’s senior yearbook included the following quote by his picture, “Good nature is a special charm, that wins a host of friends.” He surely will be missed by many.
