Dear Derrick Allan Rivers, also fondly known as "Uncle Rick,"
In loving memory of a remarkable individual whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of all those around him.
Derrick was born on April 14, 1948, in Orlando, Florida, and he embarked on a life filled with diverse experiences and accomplishments. A graduate of Stranahan High School in 1966, Derrick went on to bravely serve his country in the Airforce during the Vietnam War.
Throughout his life, Derrick wore many hats with grace and passion. From excelling in medical equipment sales to owning Florida Medical Products, from spinning tunes as a Radio Disc Jockey to helping clients find their dream homes as a Realtor, and sharing his musical talents with the world through the Derrick Rivers Trio, Derrick's impact was profound and lasting.
His infectious personality earned him the title of the "Best Uncle in the World" among his adoring nieces and nephews. He was a man with a heart of gold, known for his generosity, excellent sense of humor, and sarcastic charm that made him a joy to be around.
Derrick's zest for life was evident in his hobbies and interests - whether strumming his guitar, teeing off on the golf course, cruising on his motorcycle, engaging in Liar's poker with friends, or exploring new destinations during his travels.
One of Derrick's proudest accomplishments was starting his own business and achieving success in all his endeavors. Yet, above all else, he cherished the relationships he cultivated with his beloved family and friends. His devotion knew no bounds.
Despite bravely fighting cancer in his final days, Derrick passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, at the place he held dear - his home in Plantation, Florida. His memory will forever live on through the countless memories he created with those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Derrick is survived by his brother Lee Patterson; sister Judith Rowland; nieces Melissa Burde, Angel Koch; nephew Jason Hope; great-nieces Payton Harty, Rielyn Harty, and Victoria Green along with numerous other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.
In honoring Derrick Allan Rivers' legacy as a devoted family man and friend extraordinaire who brought laughter and love wherever he went, let us carry forward the memories we shared with him as a beacon of light in our lives.
Rest in peace, Uncle Rick. You will be forever cherished and dearly missed.
