Donovan DeCordova Barclay was born June 12, 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica. Known to most as “Don”, “Donny B”, or “Don-Don” he is survived by his sons, Dwayne (Nadege) and Dwight (Maleka) and grandchildren, Reve, Isaiah, Arielle, Aniya, Diem, Darion and Dayna, by great-grandchildren, Serenity, Shiloh, and Kylo, as well as siblings Patrick Anderson, Carole Barclay, Marina Blake, Percival Brown, Leonie Chance, Pauline Edgar, Rosanna Francis, Khaleel James, Andy James, Adrian James, and Gillian Taylor. He was predeceased by his parents Vasiana and Karl Barclay and Dudley James. Donovan attended Ardenne and Excelsior High Schools in Kingston. He retained a strong relationship with both schools as an alumnus, and generously supported both, especially through his patronage of their sports programs. His strong interest in sports was matched by his passion for travel, a trait which developed after he toured the world with a Field Hockey Team from Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica. Although he migrated to the United States, Donovan never forgot his homeland. Throughout his adulthood he continued to support Jamaica through charitable work, donations, and sponsorship of various sports teams. His special interest in the sport of hockey culminated in his playing with the Miami Hockey team, on occasions traveling to Washington, D.C. and Mexico for matches. Truly a renaissance man, Donovan’s work career saw him serving in various positions over the years with the Jamaica Telephone Company, Alumina Partners, and Coldwell Banker’s Real Estate before furthering his vocation as an entrepreneur in the HVAC industry. Donovan truly enjoyed Caribbean cruises and he was also a keen turfite. He was a useful storyteller, as his many friends can attest, and he also found time to enjoy listening to music. This beloved brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will be fondly remembered as one who lived a full and useful life. While we will miss him, we are grateful for his sojourn with us. May his soul rest in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers the family will be collecting donations to support charitable causes that were near and dear to Donovan. Due to the current health crisis affecting all of us, the family will host a repast in the future for those that are unable to attend viewing services.
