Doris Isabel Navarro Figueroa passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday November 26th at her home in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. By her side was her husband, soul mate, and love of her life for 55 years, Raymond Francis Figueroa. She was 82 years old Doris was born March 4, 1940 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to Magdalena Ordoñez and Carlos Navarro. Fiercely independent and courageous, she left her home country, after obtaining a Public Accounting degree from Instituto Central de Tegucigalpa, to seek a better life and took employment in Puerto Rico with the Peace Corps. It was there that she met her husband Raymond Figueroa, and they were married in Honduras in October 1967. Their three daughters were born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, before moving to North Miami Beach, Florida in 1977 and eventually to Ft. Lauderdale in 1993. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she cared for her children at home before re-entering the workforce and becoming a skilled kitchen designer. When her grandchildren were born, she was thrilled to jump back in the caretaker role. Family was the most important thing to Doris. She made many sacrifices in her life to ensure her children and grandchildren were well cared for and had a better future. She spent her spare time collecting antiques and caring for her plants, particularly her orchids. Doris was a devout Catholic who most recently was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great in Plantation, FL. She shared her light with others and was beloved by all she met. There were no strangers in her life because she connected and brought her love and friendship to all. Everyone she met was welcome at her home and at her table. She is survived by her husband, Raymond F. Figueroa; her daughters, Monica Figueroa King (Kenneth) of Plantation, FL, Dana Figueroa Marzilli (Alan) of Washington, DC, and Cynthia Figueroa (Robert Clark) of Philadelphia, PA; her grandchildren, Maya Raye King, Miles Lee King, Matthew Wibb Marzilli, Francesca Rae Ferrari Marzilli, Lola Frances Figueroa Clark, and Santiago Figueroa Clark; and her siblings Mario Ordonez, Maria Cristina Navarro, Carlos Navarro, Israel Navarro, Juan Angel Navarro, Yolany Derr, Elizabeth DeGracia, Leslie Navarro. Visitation will be held Friday, December 9th from 4-7pm at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, Plantation, FL. Mass will be held Saturday, December 10th at 9:30am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Plantation, FL.
