Plantation

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edward T. Shevlin Jr. of Plantation Florida. Ed passed away on Tuesday, September 10th surrounded by his loving family.

He was the pride and joy of Muriel and Edward Shevlin Sr and was the first baby born on the Fort Stewart Army Base in Hinesville, Georgia on July 21, 1942, during WW2. Eddie was raised in Brooklyn and spent his summers growing up in Copake Falls, New York, his favorite place on earth.

In 1954, when he was 12 years old, Ed saw a pretty girl named Mary June Manfre walking down the street. He was sitting in his dad’s car and got up the courage to whistle, then quickly ducked down. Mary saw his shiny black hair and tan face and thought he looked like a prince. She was wearing a locket and told him the person who was able to open it would be the one she would marry. He asked her for a Bobbie pin out of her hair and  unlocked it in seconds.

In 1964 they married and over the years welcomed their three daughters: Darlene, Colleen and Erin. Ed was one of the toughest New York City bus drivers around. In 1976 , while protecting his passengers, he was attacked by a gang. After this, he decided to pack up Mary and the girls and moved to sunny Plantation, Florida.

In the late 1980s, they set sail on their very first cruise and upon returning home, he decided that was the business for him. In 1992, he opened Ships Ahoy Cruises. Ed was proud to tell anyone and everyone that they sailed around the world on more than 200 cruises, meeting the most amazing friends along the way.

However, he was most proud of being a Grandpa to Blake, Tara, Angel, Kilian, Tiernan and his “Gino Boy.” He was  a loving great grandfather to Jasmine, Lily, Bella, Chloe, Hunter, Dakota and soon-to-be with us, Shevlin James. Ed also loved and raised William Gabler as his own, and had a special bond with both his son-in-laws, Jim and Marc. He leaves behind many family and friends who adored him.

Ed lived his life full of love, music, laughter and a splash of Tullamore D.E.W. He never met a stranger nor went a day without wearing his beloved Cowboy Boots. He and Mary faithfully watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy each evening, and treasured their weekly poker games with their poker family He lived his life to the fullest every single day and his family misses him deeply.
