Elinor Minicone

October 21, 1930 — January 9, 2020

Minicone, Elinor 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and a long time resident of Plantation, FL., passed away January 9, 2020. Elinor was born in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY and later moved to Valley Stream, NY where she graduated from Central High School. As a youth, Ellie, as she was known to her friends, was active is sports where she won medals for swimming, basketball and other sports. After graduation, she attended Hofstra University majoring in finance and banking. She started her career working at Freeport Savings and Loan and then went on to work at National Bank of Valley Stream. It was at this time that she met the love of her life, Lorenz Minicone. They married in 1953 and enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage and three children together. Elinor had a passion for her family and for being a homemaker and supported their three children in all their activities including being a Cub Scout Den mother, Little League Baseball team mom, Girl Scout leader and was a leader in the PTA during the children’s school years. At the same time she worked as a teaching assistant at Plantation Park Elementary School and on the office staff at Nova University. Elinor was an active member of St. David’s Catholic church and often worked at the church’s Carnival event and even won the “Best Hat Contest” at St. David’s Woman’s Club’s Mother’s Day Tea Party. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and telling stories after church with her many friends. She also enjoyed music and watching the Marlins baseball games. She had a great sense of humor and she enjoyed life. She taught many of us how to live and will never be forgotten.

Elinor is preceded in death by her husband Lorenz Minicone of Plantation, Florida; her daughter Linda Kelly of Plantation, Florida; her father Philip Valenti and her mother Lena Giaccone Valenti of Boca Raton, Florida and her two brothers, Philip C. Valenti and John Damian Valenti. She is survived by her two sons, Gregory (Lisa) of Sugar Land, TX; Stephen (Lorna) of Stamford, CT; six grandchildren, Christopher (Susan), Lawrence (Lauren), Nicole, Laurel (Ryan), Allie, and Paul (Kelsey); and 3 great grandchildren, Nolan, Blair and Claire.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home with a prayer service starting Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10:00AM at St. David Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
