Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Fabregas, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, left her earthly body on Sunday, May 29th, 2022, at 7:46 pm at her home in Pembroke Pines, FL surrounded by her close family. She was 78 years old.
Elizabeth was born on June 25th, 1943 in Boston, MA to the late David Block and Ethel Steward. She had eight siblings; Marti, Kathie, Karrie, Kristie, Fred, Robert, Edward, and David. As a child, Elizabeth moved to Key West, FL where she graduated from Mary Immaculate High School. After high school, she briefly traveled and then settled down in Carol City, FL where she had four children; Michelle, Teresa, Robert, and Deborah. While raising her children, Elizabeth worked as a substitute teacher at Dade County Public and Catholic Schools, where she became a highly respected and loved figure in many of the school communities, including Pace High School, Carol City Middle School, and Carol City High School. During her time as a substitute teacher, Elizabeth realized her passion in educating young minds so she pursued her dream of becoming a teacher and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from St. Thomas University in 1992 at the age of 49. From there, Elizabeth taught at Carol City Middle School. Elizabeth took an immense amount of pride in her staff, students, and school and looked at them as an extension of her family.
Following her time as a teacher, Elizabeth received her favorite title - Grandma. She had eight grandchildren; Nicholas, Noah, Shalyn, Sebastian, Conrad, Avery, Alanah, and Ariana whom she loved with all her heart and made sure they knew it. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and made sure to talk about them often.
In her later years, Elizabeth, who was a devout Catholic, could often be found at the St. Mark Catholic Church where she went to mass often and volunteered her time at the carnival’s raffle ticket booth every year. There she often ran into her “kids” from Pace High, which she spoke of often.
Elizabeth is survived by the memories and stories of her children, grandchildren, siblings, friends, former coworkers, and students. A funeral mass will be held this Friday, June 3rd at St. Mark Catholic Church at 11 am in her honor. All who knew and loved Elizabeth are welcome. The family has requested in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to either St. Mark's Catholic Church or St Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
