Silvera, 83, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 30, 2021. She was born and raised in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on September 16, 1937, and known affectionately as “Minnie” to her close friends and family. As an adult, Minnie briefly lived in Panama before spending more than 40 years of her life and raising her children in Nassau, Bahamas. She resided in South Florida for the last 20+ years. Minnie lived her life as a spiritual, peace-loving woman. She believed in putting family first, and was always available to lend a helping hand, or give a listening ear. Minnie was a dedicated mother who treasured her children and grandchildren, embracing every moment with them. A warm, caring, strong woman, Minnie’s desire to be helpful transcended beyond family and friends. In her last position as a loan officer with FINCO (where she worked for over 30+years), Minnie worked tirelessly, to make it possible for applicants to be able to realize their dreams of home ownership. Upon retiring from the banking industry, she shared her warmth and understanding by working with children, at Weston Christian Academy and First Baptist at Weston, Weston FL. Minnie loved singing. As a long-time member of First Baptist of Weston Church, she served in the church choir, and the Diamond Set Senior Group. Minnie was also an avid gardener, taking great pride in cultivating varieties of orchids. Minnie is survived by her loving children, Desmin Silvera, Wesley “Paul” DePass, Desmond Silvera Jr., and their sisters, Audrey Minto and Tiffany Silvera; grandchildren, Ashley Silvera, Danielle DePass, Angelika Wallace Whitfield, Owen Silvera, and Jabari DePass; special mention to her nieces who were like her daughters, Janet Gray, Joy Spence, Marjorie Powell, Jacqueline Elliott, Sharon Elliott-Winterburn, Marilyn Bernhofs, Dorothy Schloss, and a host of relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Florida Branch of Lymphoma & Alzheimer’s Association. May the Peace, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and may the blessing of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you, and remain with you, always.
