Eustace George Harrow, a man of unwavering spirit and engaging charisma, departed this world on August 24, 2024, at his home in Plantation, Florida, surrounded by the love of his life his dear wife, beloved children, and darling grandchildren and great grandchildren, as his cherished brother in-law Sil and sister-in-law Daphney prayed over him. Born on September 7, 1931, in Havana, Cuba, Eustace’s journey through life was a tapestry woven with rich experiences and heartfelt connections.
Eustace was infinitely proud of his family, believing them to be his greatest accomplishment. He leaves behind his loving wife, Elma Veronica Harrow, with whom he shared over 70 wonderful years of companionship. They met in Jamaica the year of the Queens coronation and together, they nurtured their four children: Mark Harrow, Marlene Harrow, Juan Eduardo Harrow, and Jacqueline Harrow and immigrated to New York. Each of his children carried a piece of him into the world. His legacy continues through his grandkids—Temiko Holmes, Tiffany Hatchett, Juan Eduardo Harrow, II, Denee Trotman, Miccaela Harrow, Ryan Harrow, and Juan Christopher Barnes—and his great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his heart: Ta'miek Smith, Aaliyah Hatchett, Zyaire Smith, Madison Hatchett, Amir Smith, Juan Eustace Harrow, Denver Memminger, Julian Barnes, Blaize Harrow, Ivy Magnus, and Levi Magnus. He is also survived by his sister, Yolanda Walker, and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family who will carry forth his memory.
For many years, he dedicated himself to the garment industry, starting his career as a pattern cutter before broadening his expertise with a course from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). His evolution into a pattern maker and grader reflected not only his technical skill but also his deep commitment to his craft. Following his retirement, Eustace relocated to Florida, where he embraced various roles that allowed him to meet and cultivate lasting friendships—bonds that remained close to his heart until his final days.
An outgoing soul, Eustace had a zest for life that drew people towards him. He was friendly, compassionate, giving, and a hard worker—qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. It was easy to spot him enjoying his favorite pastimes; whether engrossed in a captivating TV show, a leisurely game of golf, or solving crossword puzzles, he found joy in the simple pleasures. His love for sports was expansive, ranging from futbol to cricket, baseball, and football—each game sparking lively conversations with his wife who he would sit right beside him.
Eustace's life was not without sorrow. He mournfully remembers his son Juan Eduardo Harrow, his beloved sister's Vivian Leslie, Jocelyn Hoyes and Mavis McClaine, brothers Leonard Clarke and Barrington Walker whose absence is poignantly felt.
As his family and friends prepare to honor his memory, visitation will be held on September 7, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at T.M.
