Evan Daniel Garnett

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Evan Daniel Garnett, age 23, our beloved son, brother, family member, and friend, peacefully passed on Friday, October 29, 2021, while in the hospital.

Evan was a bright light with a brilliant mind and quick wit. His bravery, persistence, and grace in the face of a chronic illness were an inspiration to anyone lucky enough to know him.

He grew up in Davie, Florida, a graduate of Western High School, a leading member of their FTC/FRC Robotics teams, the “Wired Cats”. He went on to attend the University of Central Florida, as a honor student, pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His love for robotics found an outlet through the many clubs he supported, both on and off-campus, and he discovered a talent for mentoring by sharing his STEM knowledge with a local Orlando high school robotics team.

Evan loved music, gaming, and science fiction, and he was able to travel a great deal in his young life - he cruised the Caribbean and visited many parts of the United States, Europe and spent time with family in Peru.

Many have written about how special he was and how fortunate they were to have known him. Evan was a true friend, always there with a laugh or to lend a helping hand.

Evan was genuine, the purest of heart, loved his family and all its traditions, but also dreamed of his robotic footprint in space.

Evan left us too young. He will be missed every day by his parents, David and Luann Garnett, his brother Sean, paternal grandparents Douglas and Leonor Garnett, maternal grandmother Ann Dooling, and many other loving family members and friends.

The family will have a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

A fund to honor Evan and help the young students he loved to mentor has been set up, and anyone who would like to contribute can find more information at the Evan Garnett Memorial Robotics Mentoring Fund.
