It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my mother Françoise (Agnès) Gassion (Letanneur). My mother died Thursday April 3rd in hospice at Holy Cross. She received the last rites in English and in French by a wonderful priest who knew how to pronounce her name, so I think this made her happy.
My mom was a great mom, a great wife, and a wonderful grandma. She took very good care of us. She also loved to sing, drink champagne, and laugh. She was my mocking bird. I will forever miss her.
Agnes Gassion was a first cousin to Edith Piaf, the world renown French singer, and was a child during WWII. We like to think she lived "La Vie En Rose" with toughness to survive the war, work in Algeria, live in Nigeria for many years where Sylvie was born, and the classiness to thrive in Paris and at her castle in the South of France. Agnes lived her life with no regrets.
Agnes was fortunate to spend the past few years in a small nursing home just blocks from our house. She received daily care and was getting around as well as anyone might expect. Her passing was quick and painless which is what she wanted. Agnes always lived the way she wanted and was always here at our house for birthdays, holidays, and weekly visits where she would stay overnight on many occasions.
She will be missed.
Love,
Dave, Sylvie, and Jack
