George Daniel Fortney, 94, of Fort Lauderdale, passed away October 1, 2021.
Born in Pennsylvania before “The Great Depression”, George was drafted in the service while a high school student. He served his country honorable and faithfully in the United States Army, throughout Italy and Germany, during World War II. Receiving an honorable discharge, George went home to Pennsylvania, married his high school sweetheart, Frances, and relocated their family to Fort Lauderdale in 1958.
George and Frances started “Fortney Appliances” in 1959, and continues to be a family run business in Fort Lauderdale. In 2018, Frances Fortney, his loving wife of 72 years, preceded him in death.
Surviving George are sons, David (Lyla) Fortney, Robert (Luanne) Fortney, Brad Fortney, and Barry Fortney; daughter, Tammy (Roy) Kunz; daughter-in-law, Rosie Fortney; seven grand-children, David (Allyson) Fortney, Jr., Christopher Fortney, Nick Fortney, Shannon (Jared) Joubert, Katherine (David) Low, Christina Fortney, and Philip (Taylor) Fortney; eight great-grandchildren, Sam Fortney, Chelsea Fortney, Jules Fortney, Cooper Fortney, Layla Joubert, Peyton Joubert, Griffin Low, and Violet Low.
Visitation will be Thursday, 9:00AM-11:00AM, at T. M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, and the funeral service will begin, 11:00AM. Interment immediately following in Lauderdale Memorial Park.
