Hollywood, FL - George Patrick Smith, 78, died unexpectedly of angiosarcoma (cancer of the arteries) on August 1, 2022. He was born on October 27, 1943, to George H. and Mary A. (Shinnick) Smith in Lynn, MA. After graduating from St. Mary’s Boys’ High School in 1961, George joined the Navy, where he learned to repair aircraft and fell in love with aviation. After four years of service and one tour in Vietnam, he received his A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) license from East Coast Aero Tech in 1968. Upon graduation, he was hired at Eastern Airlines where he worked as a mechanic at Logan Airport in Boston, MA. Six months after, he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Mary Tucker. The two were married on August 16, 1968. They moved down to Cooper City, FL where they purchased their home and raised their family in the best neighborhood anyone could ever dream of. George was tirelessly devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors as anyone who knew him would attest. George made a name for himself as a long-time mechanic and eventual tech supervisor at Eastern Airlines. He later went on to work as a traveling mechanic for Rich International Airlines where he travelled the world. He was passionate about woodworking, tinkering on projects in his garage, and had a fascination with learning how things were built. Big or small, there was no problem he could not solve. He also had a never-ending sense of humor. If you knew him or ever crossed his path, you would always hear a joke. Predeceased family include his father George, his mother Mary, and his brother Mark B. Smith. Surviving family includes his loving wife, Catherine Smith; Kevin Smith (son), his wife Christine, and their children Ethan, Owen, and Nolan; Kathleen Schlosbon (daughter), her husband Ray and their children Michael, Ryan, and Emma; Maryellen Martinez (daughter), her husband Tom and their child Tommy; Shawna Yates (daughter), her fiancé Anthony and her child Katie; & Colleen Alioto (sister) and her husband Robert.
