George Paul Wodarzak

George Paul Wodarzak, passed away peacefully at his home in Plantation, Florida on June 1, 2020 surrounded by his family. George was born in Schenectady, New York on April 15, 1934 to George and Sylvia Wodarzak. After attending Union College, he joined the United States Air Force as a dedicated officer and moved to Maine where he met his future wife, Shirley Rose Burton. Together, they frequently moved across the country with their two daughters as he was transferred to different bases. George retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of faithfully and honorably serving his country before going on to become the assistant director in public works and construction management for Broward County Florida for 18 years. He was a dedicated sports fan, always cheering on his home teams; Miami Hurricanes, Dolphins , Miami Heat and Marlins-even when they made it hard! Weather permitting, you could find George at the golf course, playing his favorite game. Sports aside, George also love to read and listen to all genres of music-he was known as an excellent drummer! George will be remembered for his generous heart and a smile that would light up a room. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley and their daughters: Charlotte Kneeley and Alison Delsman, Planation Fl. ; Three grandchildren: Joshua Delsman (Kimi Tsukagoshi) Los Angeles,CA. ; Ryan Delsman Plantation, Fl. ; Megan Kneeley Dallas, Tx. He was also survived by his sister, Patricia Knightes, Schenectady, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to the current conditions, a small service will be held on Sunday, June 7Th at the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home (7001 NW 4th Street) you can also attend the service via live stream by following the instructions at the end of this notice. Friends will be received from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 3:30PM. Once family and friends can safely gather again, a funeral with military honors will be held at the South Florida veteran cemetery, as well as a gathering to celebrate George’s life.
