Helmut Dean, 79, of Plantation, Florida, found peace on Friday, September 23, 2022, concluding his battle with various health conditions. He was released from his body in the comfort of his home of forty years. Helmut was born during World War II, on April 13, 1943, in Berlin, Germany. In October of 1950, he was just 7 years old when he and his family migrated to the United States onboard the USS General Taylor to New York. The family name, Deutschkron, was changed to Dean when they became United States Naturalized Citizens in 1957. Helmut brought honor to his family and his new country by serving in the United States Army as a Medic in the Vietnam War. He spoke little of Vietnam, but what was mentioned was that, during the war, sometimes the most help he could provide to the wounded soldiers was to give them morphine to ease their suffering. Helmut was employed with Pan Am as a mechanic until operations ceased in 1991. Pan Am brought him and his immediate family to Florida. He had been stationed in New York (JFK) and transferred to Miami (MIA) in the early 1980s. He received recognition from Pan Am for volunteering to remove a checked bag from the belly of the aircraft that contained a possible explosive. He later was employed and retired from Amerijet International Airlines, working at both Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Miami (MIA) airports. Helmut was a man of few words, but his kind heart was always there when you needed him. He was always generous and always willing to help those who asked for it. He provided for his wife and children as a dignified loving husband and father would. Helmut was a reliable person who always extended his hands to help his family and friends with however he could. Helmut was preceded in death by his sisters: Vera, Ruth and Helga. He is survived by his sister: Elsa Dean, nephew: Jason Gotsis, and nieces: Kalli Kustas and Sandy Kiernan. Helmut is survived by his loving wife, Carmen, of forty-five years. Children: Erich Dean, Jenise Salazar and husband, Adrien. Grandchildren: Brandyn, Adrien, and Kaylee. “Opa is in Heaven.” – Adrien (3 years old). Funeral Services will be held on October 7, 2022, at the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.
