Henry W. Perry, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, died July 28th, 2017. Born in Berlin Germany on January 18, 1926 to Werner and Leslye (Blackmon) Junk. He was conscripted into the German Army and sent to fight with the 25th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front. He was wounded during the Siege of Kustrin on March 14, 1945. After the war, with the help of Senator Claude Pepper, he was able to Immigrate to America to join his Mother and younger brother Frank. He landed in New York on November 11, 1947 to begin his new life. He met his future wife Nelda at the celebration for the opening of the “new” Andrews Avenue bridge in Fort Lauderdale in 1949 and they were married on April 9, 1953. He became a Journeyman Electrician in IBEW Local #728 and eventually obtained his Master's License. On September 2, 1957 his daughter Kenai Perry was born, and on May 30, 1960 his son Kurt Perry was born. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s his work took him to locations across America and the Bahamas. He worked in Florida, Alaska, Grand Bahama Island, California, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and North Dakota. In the 1970s his work took him back to Alaska where he helped build the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. He spent several of these years in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska. In the 1980s he took jobs overseas where he worked on projects in Israel and Saudi Arabia. Throughout his travels, Nelda was able to join him for exotic vacations in Europe, Egypt, Kenya and Hawaii. He retired in late 1980s and enjoyed traveling and spending time at home with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kenai, in 2000 and his wife, Nelda, in 2006. Survivors include son Kurt and his wife Sheryl; grandchildren Austin and Savannah; brother Frank and his wife Margaret. Visitation to be held at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Street, Plantation, FL 33317, on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 12:00 PM with a service starting at 1:00 PM. Burial to follow at Lauderdale Memorial Park. If friends so desire, memorials can be directed the “John Ranken Memorial Scholarship Fund” care of Broward College and IBEW Local #728.
