Irving C. Lazarus of Weston, Florida passed away December 9, 2018, only hours before his 91st birthday. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the late Lois Kessler Lazarus, to whom he was married for 42 years. Born to the late Sarah and Joseph Lazarus, Irving was raised the youngest of four Lazarus boys: the late Harry (Hildene), Maurice (Marjorie), and the late Louis (Betty Ann). After serving in Japan as a sergeant in the United States Army, he married Marilyn Levinson (Kersch) and spent many years as a contractor in the thriving Chicago construction business. Father to the late Joel Lazarus (Jean), and Paula Lazarus Filler (Bob), Irving later moved to Florida. There, he enjoyed retired life, traveling with Lois to Italy and beyond, or tirelessly perfecting his golf swing. He took much joy in devoting time to his grandchildren Jason Eisenstein (Jamie), Walter (“Wally”) Eisenstein, and great-grandchildren Dylan and Emily, all children and grandchildren of Annie Cappuccio (Bill) and Bob Eisenstein. While serving on various condo board committees, Irving represented well his constituents, sharing his vast knowledge of the building industry. In recent years, when cancer limited his activities, he continued to expand his mind, voraciously reading mystery novels on his trusty iPad, following the stock market, rooting for his Chicago Bears and Cubs, and armchair-competing with Jeopardy! contestants. He loved spending hours in conversation with his adoring (and adored) assistant, Simone Gordon. Although they were separated by over 2,000 miles, Paula and Bob visited their treasured father as often as they could, and believe that somewhere, somehow, he is already boasting about his Arizona and Florida families, telling hilarious Yiddish jokes, or singing Simone’s praises as his guardian angel! He will be dearly missed by friends Richard and Sue; Eucaster, Hakeem and Michael; neighbors Mary Ann and Charlie; neighbor and confidante Kathy; nieces and nephews, as well as countless members of the community who enjoyed Irving’s outgoing and witty personality. A private family service will be held December 13, 2018.
